The artistic world of Evgeniy Bugaev always remains veiled with mystery. The artist himself calls his art “eidetic” (from εἶδος – idea, image (Greek) and metaphysical. This metaphysical effect is caused by the unique mysterious combination of photographic images and eternal symbols, vile and permanent, sacred and profane. Bugaev`s images don’t have any certain corporeal meaning, their main feature – is the ability to send to the Unknown. According to Bugaev, the lost tradition can only be recreated with the power of art. He relates himself to neo-academic traditionalism, Russian necrorealism, Italian metaphysicists and the pictorial art of ancient Russia. All these aesthetics are seamlessly combined with the reflection of the natal lands. In the artist’s video works, the state, that they lead its patient viewers to, is the most important. It`s a state of grief, loss and absolute silence. It`s the silence of the dead world, which still holds dearly the images of Beauty, Truth and Wheal.
