Noche de Dominga

This Filminuto, will be part of the scene of a script I wrote in which his protagonist is a grandmother, Dominga, who just lost her husband and reality is disrupted by the permanent appearance of Elijah, her husband, who through dream it gains access to its conscious realities. Dominga lives a routine life, and in the absence of the presence of her husband when leaves appear, his life is full of repetitions. The video I want to show present Dominga's eyes, the images happening abroad are charged and connected to the path of your life. Is the window reflects the inhabited universe Dominga, repetitive, fuzzy, passive and routine.

Imagen, gen, gen, gen, gen, gen, gen (...)

The project I propose is built on the idea of generating a moving image, from the direct intervention of the video material. The picture deals with the deconstruction of visual language to transcribe the language of matérico video projection. The video is deconstructed is obtained from their own work. The idea that explores the video delves immersion in another state of consciousness, through perception, look and feel. With this, I intend to disrupt the reality as well, I can build from divergent points, generating an impact on the consciousness of the plastic image is deconstructed through the body intervention on the video. Statement: The video creation process is done through video projection, but my interest is in the image result in the call for submission of video art.

De regreso a Bogotà

This video was taken while coming back from Santa Marta to Bogota, was 6:40 pm and we had only 2 hours by road from 15 hours to get missing. The appeal of the hand is something I've always liked to do when I go in a car as a child, so given the extensive tour I decided to put a stamp on the route through the obstacle generated by the wind into my forearm given by the speed of car. When I decided to record, I noticed that the scene consisted in leading a poetic look as overwhelming as is the act of spending hours sitting in a car, I experienced such a sense, changed and nurtured my consciousness during the trip. Textures of forest & city

My recent work is part of an ongoing exploration of River Cauvery, its Tributaries, River banks, Forest and it’s textures, order, structure and matter of the natural world. . I create site specific works in outdoors and environmental art straight into nature; in forests, Rivers, on their banks, trees, at cliffs and so on. On the other hand I rearrange nature’s own materials in a new way in their own “territory”. Living in Bangalore, I often visit the vast, primordial jungles of Kodagu which is an inspiration.. I attempt to experience the landscape, observe and feel it physically. I try to relate to the qualities and energies of that place and evoke the same in my paintings and videos. Basically I am a painter and I always rely on forest for my subjects, its textures, forms, feel of it, the smell, insects, foot prints of animals, moos, dry leaves, seeds, mushrooms ……..I started doing site-specific works mostly on forest floor, then in the river, these works are all temporary unless I document and show it, it does not exist, it gets back into nature over a period of time may be few hrs or days. I do enjoy being there whispering, listening, talking to trees and mountains. Then started making short videos of these works, and got carried away by the moving images. So I felt video was the first medium option for my works too. Collecting the bright red seeds scattered all over the banks of the river then assembling together in the geometrical pattern, Knotting the grass another day towards evening, then wanted to do more, but the river was over flowing because of the heavy rains at night. So there goes my work washed away. Too dangerous to work again. Making circles, or straight line or zigzag lines with stones in the river, once the snake dead skin got caught in it and became part of my work. Feel the water running through my feet, hands, body...

Cross over

This video negotiates my image on the river juxtaposed, which is very intimate. I am exploring my passionate relationship with the River Cauvery and using my body to navigate through it. My connection to River Cauvery water now is through Bangalore city where I live , even though River and myself are natives of the same place- kodagu. The River originates from Thalacauvery in Kodagu in Karnataka.

Rhythm of life

"Rhythm of Life", which is inspired by the phenomenon of Hong Kong people. Not difficult to notice that Hong Kong people's life always stressful and swift, it seems no one is willing to slow down to "taste" their own life. Several reflective question would like to ask: "What do you hear? Noise? Passing vehicle?" Thus, the background sound is simple speeded up to represent our bustle life, sometime we can still feel the beauty and richness during the process, however, sometime we may want to slow down our rhythm. "Taste" the duration of time! Enjoy the rest of hurry!

The tune

I transform physical world as a contoured form into video through scanning process. During scanning the body and object, physical force interrupts it to be digitalized as complete form as real and makes it stretched and melted. Consequently, it is a replication of the physical thing, but it has its own unique form such as malformation, which visually evokes viewer's nerve system.

Hamed

Aphrodisiac – what is it? On the one hand aphrodisiacs awake in us an ironic and an irreverent emotions. It's arising of its archaic character and our incomplete knowledge about them. On the other hand we imagine something intimate and magic by them, like as sexual act. Hamed is an illusion of an aphrodisiacs which was created on image of kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope is characterized by repetition, organic form and multiplication of movement. In video, the movement of aphrodisiacs is presented by different sounds and colours. Aphrodisiacs affect on our imagination, subconscious and libido. We taste our sexuality by picture. Eroticism is consumed with taste.

Xaoh

I suffered a significant hearing loss that often left me isolated and I was unable to hear clearly. That's when I realize the importance of the sense of hearing. For the realization of this piece has collaborated Joan Miquel Oliver (National Music Prize 2008) composing a melody that becomes the only constructor of the video. XAOH is based on my non-intervention in the editing process being deliberately oblivious to the completion of the work. The process is complex: The conversion of the original music into numbers provides 3 values that are connected to the scale attribute and to the opacity of the different layers. The position of the layers are determined by the number that gives name to each layer at random. XAOH is the result of turning a weakness into strength, experience and change the rules.

54 Shots Sitting Down

We are Mr.&Mrs.Gray aka Jeroen van der Linde en Carmen Hutting. We work and live together in The Hague in the Netherlands. We do not believe in letting ourselves be restricted by the limitations we encounter, and complaining and despairing over everything that's wrong. We do believe in focussing on the possibilities, appreciate the value of what we have and figure out how to turn it into something better. That's why our work is about those possibilities, chances and new adventures often to be found in the smallest and most trivial things, the things we see when we look at the word with rapt attention. We've noticed that there is so little attention and devotion for the world we create for ourselves. We're wondering what causes the phenomenon that people can live their lives without really seeing what's there. How come they do not see the beauty and the riches that surround them? 54-Shots Sitting Down is a short film loop from nails in public benches. But the theme of the work is acually the decay of our society, the apathy, the numbness. The works address this carelessness and the inadvertence. That's why 54-Shots Sitting Down is saying: The nails in the public benches are beautiful, can't you see it?

Dark side of the sun

I was intrigued by how our eyes react to the sunlight, the colours and flickerings you see when you've been looking directly into the sun. I tried to simulate this with different materials, such as glass, plastic, different lenses of glasses,... I was also inspired by the album 'Dark side of the Moon' by Pink Floyd, especially the album cover, the title and how the tracks blend together. I tried to catch and transform the light of the sun, an element that we need to survive but never can touch.

I thought of telling the sense of touch with the absence of it, or with its contemporary surrogate. The touch screen becomes the membrane with which we filter a world that frightens us.

Umami - the 5th taste

In 2000, a team of scientists at the University of Miami, announced definitive evidence of the so-called “fifth taste”-umami. They identified the specific taste receptors unique to umami. Umami has a mild but lasting aftertaste that is difficult to describe. It induces salivation and a sensation of furriness on the tongue, stimulating the throat, the roof and the back of the mouth. Glutamate, an amino acid, is the source of this savoury wonder found also in human milk. It is “something that has been slow-cooked for a long time. Raw meat isn't that umami. You need to release the amino acids by cooking, or hanging it until it is a little desiccated, maybe even moulded slightly, like a very good, expensive steak". (Paul Breslin, Monell University) UMAMI-the 5th taste is a visual description of the creation and savoury experience of such a dish spiced with implicit, disturbing phantasies of cannibalism.

The soldier Eden Abergil posed next to blindfolded & de-personalized Palestinian detainees & uploaded the photo to the social cultural cloud aka facebook. The Palestinian civilian, when blindfolded, is transformed by the Israeli soldier to a tourist attraction. He is not looking at the camera in the same way that Tour Eiffel stands next to the girl who will soon share the moment with her friends. The Israeli president is playing with a gun, he is surrounded by the special forces, he may have sent them on missions, they are looking straight at us, but we can only see their eyes & we cannot tell who they really are. Shimon Peres is having a good time, he will show this photo to his friends on occasions. Toys desire to be played with, begging, please pick me up, the Rubik's cube begs to be held, to get twisted and must be played with, since; "if you are not playing with this, please let your sister have it!" or "Lets give this to someone who can enjoy it, someone who WILL USE IT". When looking at this picture a part of us wants to see the peace-fighting oxymoron of a president fire the gun. Only then will the toy get to be played with and the picture will become complete. When looking at a photo from Abu Ghraib on the network we will click to find more, same as i looked at the photo of Eden Abergil. The core aspiration of a biological being is to develop and to thrive to be content & satisfied in all available parameters. This piece shows how our true basic desires, specifically the desire to be loved, to be looked at, can blind our moral judgement.

In Praise of darkness

"I live among vague, luminous shapes that are not darkness yet". In Praise of Darkness, a proposal on the surround reality who part of intagible, of the senses, of memory, of imagination and reformulation of what is veiled and seems immateria. Based on the poem by Jorge Luis Borges, this video art translates your trip to blindness in that inner search that led him to return to his true self; "I reach my center my algebra and my key, my mirror. Soon I will know who I am". And so I reflect back on the aesthetic experience, that not part of reality itself, but rather from the subtle interplay between the real and the apparent, and that ending that results from the transformation of light.

The action performed for the camera comes from a curiosity towards the act of slashing a dead body that will be devoured. It is a daily activity, a banal gesture, that is placed in perspective when the sequences of the scenes in wich a chicken is being prepared are put in reverse. Brings to light of the discussion about the nature of the wild instinct of satiation, domination, animal domestication and how we are driven to a less civilizatory condition when we realize ourselves obeying these instincts.

Haptonymous

Code for the video project is to determine the haptic ( haptics) - science about the feeling and touching. Name Haptonymous consists of two parts, the Greek haptikos (tactile) and the Latin anonymus (anonymous). The sense of touch, of all the senses is the most immediate and rooted in the origins of life. Tactile contact forms the basis of the conceptual systems: hard - soft, heavy - light, cold - hot, smooth - rough, dry - wet, touch - impact, friction – pinch …. Appropriate to touch a specific aspect of tactile - concept of political touch. In addition to bodily perceptions - can be detected and the following active moments communications: the diplomatic tensions, military clashes, easy communication, painful relations, rough edges in the communication, the mild climate, the hot spot, the cold war, dry residue, etc. Using folk music refers to preserve and liberating character of the ancient culture, which is clearly demonstrated by the recent events in Ukraine, on Maydan Nezalezhnosti.

When communities are faced with hostility, there is a tendency to develop a coded form of communication, which contains the subject that is to be inferred from the obvious. This covert communication materializes in the form of cryptic mails, sms, letters, signs, whispers, etc. The video presents the image, the meaning of which is to be inferred by the viewer. What is exciting is that the viewer may have his/her own codes and therefore the works can acquire a universal currency of multiple meanings.

The sounds create a nuanced soundscape as light. Our brains analyzed what they perceive information and transform it into a meaning for us. But what if our senses fail? If you do not know the Message  we can correctly interpret what we hear?. Reversing the sound for a short walk, a new code is obtained, a new incomprehensible language is generated in form but not in substance. And it is curious to see how certain sounds are almost equal despite of their investment. Is it because they sound alike or because our brain perceives the same?

Holographic dream sequence 002

This video is aiming to overcome conventional documentary imagery. It tends to be neither subjective nor political by following the irrational logic of a dream. Partially hiding what can be seen it opens a field of transpersonal assembly. What happened in this country between 2013 and 2014 shall become an inspiration for all peoples who would wish to live in free and truly democratic regions of this galaxy. 3D-images of the View-Master had been the strongest visual impression to me when I was a child. When I came to this country first time 3 years ago to spend the winter with my wife I wanted to somehow rediscover such a feeling, such an aesthetic using video technology. So I did some test recordings with an experimental 3D-camera. Now during the days of revolution I used the same lenses configured as a 2D-recorder. It meant to create a distinct contrast between the simple moments of beauty and the heavy imprints of now days reality. The white snow in the mountains served to picture a fragile paradise. The snow in the city has turned red from blood and black from smut. But the dark sky can only rule until we come to understand that no one ever is alone in the forest. When we ask ourselves what could be meant by what we see we are already on the path. This video can be consumed with anaglyph (red/cyan) 3d glasses or regular glasses and for sure without any glasses as well. The habitual experience of seeing as such may be challenged either way.

Masticatus mitosis

Although all the five senses are useful to give us an idea of what is happening around us, the sense of taste is the one that is more directly related to the energy reloading of our complex body machinery. "Masticatus Mitosis" is the choreographed animation of a self-replicating mouth. It is a moving collage with a single element. The mouth, the main organ associated with the sense of taste. The food ingestion process is full of sonic textures. There is rhythm in the chewing. These sounds are used as the soundtrack of the animation. The boost of energy provided by food ingestion is represented by the multiplication of life. The number of elements is incremented exponentially until the screen is partially filled. After some figures of synchronized mastication, the array of mouths is collapsed and transformed back to its origins.

The act of living with your ears only. An interruption of the flow: ninety seconds listening to your life. If you do not feel anything maybe your soul is already dead . If you get bored maybe you need to reconsider your willingness to explore. The activity of sounds is a tribute to the man who opened our perception with a simple and radical act of disobedience towards the forms. To the man that has done away the silence. With the forgotten knowledge that the "too few" is already and always enough.

Icarus's eyes

Artist's senses are like the Icarus's wings: they are open to break away from Earth but closer to the beauty / sun will melt and burn, plunging the artist in the darkness. Vision

Take a moment to locate an object around you. Do you know how you are able to see it? Would you believe that what you are actually seeing are beams of light bouncing off of the object and into your eyes? It is hard to believe, but it is true. The light rays enter the eye through the cornea, which is a thick, transparent protective layer on the surface of your eye. Then the light rays pass through the pupil and into the lens. Just behind the pupil is the lens and it focuses the image through a jelly-like substance called the vitreous humor onto the back surface of the eyeball, called the retina. This process inspired me to crate a video about vision.

The meeting

The short film The Meeting re-interpretes Courbet painting The Meeting, or Bonjour Monsieur Courbet as a starting point for discussing the moral principles of our time. it is a comment about the artist's world, which does not only define the artist's ego and "external appearance", but mostly about the real mutual dependence between the artist and his Maecenas, between art and capital. Blindness adresses a wider social problem and its value system. The two blind persons are allegorical figures representing the meeting of two mutually dependent and randomly intersecting positions, which in an unavoidable-athough unexpected- meeting, do not fail to recognise each other.

Touch

By playing around with different mediums, such as vision, sound, and words, we can affect the way we perceive and experience the world around us. Although one cannot change reality, he/she can change the way we perceive it. Imagination gives us control over what we experience. Take masturbation for example; words, images, and sounds all become the victim to the manipulating power of our self-editing imagination. In reality, we are touching ourselves, however, the mind acts as a necessary evil and helps us to perceive a lie. Lohrasb Bayat & Ali Kianian February, 2014

The artist, the muse, and the minstrel

Obsessively the artist pokes and pushes, stroking the clay, finding his way with his hands. Bit by bit his fingertips search and caress the mysterious contours of the female form. The more he touches the clay, the more he is aroused, developing a relationship, in fact falling in love with his alluring muse. The Artist, The Muse, and The Minstrel is an intimate portrait, a close-up exploration of the vital energy emerging from the artists touch. Forming the figure, senses are overwhelmed with arousal as he manipulates the clay, awakening a curiosity about and interest in the muse. My desire is to reflect the intimacy, timelessness, and emotion viscerally witnessed at this sensuous feast.

Tapestry of dominion

This work looks at the obscure and wholly internal experience of taste. What we know is that this sense becomes most closely us, our food becomes our essence, our being. A unique interplay of biology and culture in a corporeal dominion. There begins a symbiotic and colorful tapestry, a woven, cellular reality, the most ancient relationship. This machination is ritualized and becomes a ceremony and an enduring social construct of immense proportions. I have blended forms of movement, music, visual behavior and images into patterns that strive to bring actions and reactions together for a layered and intimate interpretation.

Ultrasound

Based in the works of experimental musicians that use ordinary objects to produce sound - such as John Cage in “Three Constructions” - and in experiments with enhanced environmental sound - such as the sound design in the opening scene of Sergio Leone´s "Once Upon a Time in the West" - this video installation speaks about the relations between sound and its most inner actions and imagery. Ultrasounds are waves with a frequency that is above the human hearing range which imaging result is known as ultrasonography. Considering that people who suffer certain pathologies such as autism – or even children - can hear wave amplitudes above those that most adults recognize, what I question is the visceral relation of the individual with certain daily sound patterns that although being considered audible, act in our unconscious mind in a metaphorically ultrasonic way, that is, in a deep level disabling us to gain consciousness of them.

The Voigth-Kampff Test is a psychological interview on people, observing their emotional reactions to identify their humanity. He decided. Obviously, she doesn`t know Voight-Kampff Test, no answers. is a 3 minute video, where a woman (which we can`t see) aggressively interrogates another Alexithymic woman without answers. So she feels powerless to respond emotionally to psychological aggression, as an artist to cultural invasions of their environment. The questioning never existed, is a date without time or place, between two people who could never know each other, everything was created by computer to simulate an alternate reality, a dystopia. Voight-Kampff Test existed because the machines always tried to mingle with humans.

Landscape_1, Landscape_2.0

The gaze goes beyond the simple perception of the outside world through the sense of sight; it is our interpretation of of this. Humanity sees herself through hes eyes how represents. Like a game of mirrors, we can only see what we have seen, acknowledge what we already know. Landscape_1 raises the origin and evolution of the eye as cultural construction of landscape concept. Landscape_2.0, a new concept of "landscape" for the information age. Landscape_1. With painting, we learned a new way to "look" at the natural environment, and also to knowledge that nature it was no longer a threatening element. We begin to aesthetically contemplate it, while at the same time, we were taming it. Later, photography reproduced this glance "painterly" to meet the challenges of its own format, which would result in moving images of the film language. As pointed out by Walter Benjamin, each technique belongs to a time and to an aesthetic way of "looking" and perceiving the world (perceived from the senses). Landscape_2.0 Today, new technologies have taken our gaze beyond our sensory perception. They need of technological prostheses to make visible the invisible, legible the illegible. It came forth a new language that has invaded our urban, natural and rural landscape with new code, the QR codes. Unintelligible to the human eye, they leave the aesthetic trail of an encoded landscape that formats any perception.

Taste (gusto) of art

The Spanish translation of "Taste" is "gusto", besides its aesthetic conception it also means "flavor". So, aesthetic conceptions are incorporated to us through the mouth. We eat letters with "flavor" to learn "aesthetic" concepts. This is a way to "feel" with "senses" the conventions apprehended culturally that construct the "camouflaged" and uncritically propagated through the contagious and empathetic "taste" individually collective.

Four element ceremony - Absorbing domestic plants

Contemporary ceremony to trace the genealogy between poison domestic plants and their owners through the senses. My work traces, modifies, and re-imagines the complex genealogy of relationships between humans and other living beings and the underlying subjective and historical processes at play in the construction of those relationships. I’m interested in the ways that what we call the “self” is actually an entangled commingling of relationships and beings we think of as separate, while at the same time, our closest proximity to a plant might be a piece of furniture. I think of my work as anthropological research into the ways beings are seen and categorized and the ways our experience is shaped by images and subjectivities rather than objective facts. Through video, installation, drawing, plant collections, public interventions, and writing, I imagine cohabitations of living beings and disrupt (mis) understandings based on fixed divisions. My work creates relationships—accidents or distortions—that in their absurdity open a space of indeterminacy that proposes new negotiations, possibilities, and even cosmologies.

Panta Rhei

After the concept of panta rhei (everything flows) one can never step into the same river for the second time. Similarly, a single flame cannot be dowsed twice – it is a finite and irretrievable act. The performers’ reaction towards the candle is not always consciously decided. Their behaviour and associations are pre-determined by age and experience, suggesting a certain state of existence in which nothing can repeat or be undone, but each time is perceived as the same, yet new incident in a lifetime. In the very nature of this eternal flow of recurrences, a saying einmal ist keinmal (once is never) expresses the impossibility of the judgement of our actions as success or failure for the second chance is never granted.

A still shot shows the artist’s hand. As the fingers move, they start to create a sort of dialogue between them. First, they seem to be comforting and caressing each other. Then, the interaction becomes more and more aggressive, until the fingers start having a fight. As he outstretches his hand to the world, the artist is trying to question the nature of human relationships, and to draw attention to the contradictions and complexity of social relations essentially marked by conflict and mistrust. "TASTE" is metaphorically the best sense for my film "We Are One", because the hand can be seen here like a mouth eating something or looking to something to eat.

Sound in 3 Colours

The five senses are not isolated experiences; they are a complex set of inter-relationships, undeniably illustrated through synaesthesia. Synaesthesia is a condition where the interconnectedness between the five senses is heightened to a degree where interaction through one sensibility is manifest in another. The condition is by degrees though; it’s not an all or nothing situation. We all have it to some degree, Memory and other sensual experiences are similarly interrelated; they can create a threshold though which associations rush. A smell, visual stimulus, a sound or a taste can stimulate the ‘other’ simultaneous aesthetics events that are situated in and living in memory. I chose to focus, as a starting point, on the singular object that we call colour but aware that colour cannot be thought of in any meaningful way as singular; it is a portal from which histories and other associations; the context, emerges. Our senses are the means by which we mediate between the external environment and the inner-self. For all their inadequacies they are the antenna that gather information, how that is process and interpreted is far too complex for me to consider deciphering. I collect and show. Sound in 3 colours is comprised of three short narratives that give context to the abstract that we call a colour. It situates it in an experience; in this case that which related a relationship between it and some recollection of or relationship with a sound.

Elements

Senses become the essentials of human intelligence by organizing the inclusive experiences. Likewise the elements of nature are considered to be the forces behind our very existence. It is generally believed that the ‘senses’ are related to the body, whereas the elements of nature are divine. ‘Touch’ being the most sensuous experiences connected to our body, it is an attempt of a visual narration using the moving hand with changing colours and textures. With a constant ‘touch’ of forces of nature, it becomes a metaphor for transformation and an infinite voyage.

Circadian rhythms

A circadian rhythm is any biological process that displays an endogenous, entrainable oscillation of about 24 hours. These rhythms are driven by a circadian clock and have been widely observed in plants, animals, fungi, and cyanobacteria. The video Circadian Rhythms describes the passing of time in the life of a person over a 24hr time lapse. Instead of using the traditional way of telling a story, this piece is built with sounds that describes daily routines. It is a “sound composition in space” that explores the concepts of rhythm and repetition, the cycles and the subjectivity of time. It's an “abstract painting in time” defined by surfaces and colours, lights and shadows.

Senses and smell

The most curious feature of the human sense of smell is that we cannot accept any sweet, like the flowers, but can't take the smell of our fellows, by which we try to camouflage it. We prefer an external to our own body odor and are increasingly more concerned about replacing our natural scent by one artificial. This video do a reflection on those imperceptible but existing smells, for example the smell of a mother breast-feeding her son, the smell of the sea reaching the rocks from the beach, the smell of the desperate cry for someone, the smell of insects, the smell of foam, water flowing, the smell vacuum smell, the smell of the sheets of paper and pen, the smell of the kisses, the smell of the cars in the cities, etc... Ultimately the smell of those feelings that sometimes seem unrecognizable but there are and move us. Depends on us perceive its delicate essence.

I Saltatori

Just a smell to be overwhelmed by emotions and memories . It is through the five senses that the jumper activates the memory . Just a familiar smell to wake up all the other senses and remember the loved one. A poppy , a wool sweater , a disc, a candy, a picture: every object recalls the past , bringing it back in time and helping to build an invisible plot between him and the lost loved one , through the common thread of memories. Each object in its tangible materiality , immateriality is a shared moment , and thanks to its mnemonic power , decreases the links between past and present. It is thanks to the continuity of memory, the permanence of their individual experiences that you can preserve their identities . The jumper is an identity sorely tried by a loss and ghosting that now reborn , who consciously decide to skip the meadow of red poppies and land on a warm and soft meadow of red wool ... finally ready to REMEMBER .

Sound & Vision

‘Sound & Vision’ explores the aural through visual means, and an investigates how, by means of a processing of the sonic-event via technological re-staging, concepts of authenticity can be destabilised. By engaging with conventions of listening as they are established in Film Theory, and reconsidering late twentieth century Performance Art’s contested definitions of ‘liveness’, I am asking how is the ‘real sonic-event’ mediated through technologies? And, how is the ‘live’ re-presented through these mediations? In particular low-key and low-fi sequences of performed tasks, re-constructed, re-purposed and ‘re-punked’ through, bringing into question the authenticity of their first instantiation.

The Hole

In philosophical discussions of the secondary qualities, color has taken center stage. Smells, tastes, sounds, and feels have been treated, by and large, as mere accessories to colors. This, at least, has been the working assumption in the philosophy of perception and in those metaphysical discussions about the nature of the secondary qualities. The result has been a scarcity of work on the “other” secondary qualities. In this paper, I take the smell and put it front and center, try to create a visual expression with colors and forms. We are, as it is said, visual creatures...

The forest

The Forest was shot entirely on a twelve-inch rotating stage containing six miniature diorama scenes. In each scene the actual physical space is exactly six inches wide and three and a half inches deep. My intention with this piece is to transport the viewer to another place for a few moments by evoking an illusionary sensory feeling of an immense and limitless environment within a miniaturized veiled space. The following passage is taken from Gaston Bachelard’s, Poetics of Space. Which was a specific influence while I was making The Forest. “It is often this inner immensity that gives their real meaning to certain expressions concerning the visible world. To take a precise example, we might make a detailed examination of what is meant by the immensity of the forest. For this “immensity” originates in the body of impressions which in reality, have little connection with geographical information. We do not have to be long in the woods to experience the always rather anxious impression of “going deeper and deeper” into a limitless world. Soon, if we do not know where we are going, we no longer know where we are. It would be easy to furnish literary documents that would be so many variations on the theme of this limitless world, which is the primary attribute of the forest.”

Involuntary memories

Video based on Marcel Proust's famous madeleine' passage, where he describes an incident in which he was eating a tea soaked Madeleine cake. The smell and taste brought him back to a childhood memory of eating tea soaked madeleines with his aunt. He then began to remember the childhood home he used to live in and even the town itself. This becomes a theme throughout In Search of Lost Time, with sensations reminding Proust of previous experiences. He dubbed these Involuntary memories. Scientific experiments studying the different odours that evoked nostalgia have proved that people's odour associations vary depending on the time they live in. In this video, the spectators immerse themselves in the cup of tea and fragments of "memories" are revealed. The particularity of these images is that they come from television commercials advertising perfumes. Images of attractive men and women, wearing expensive clothes and jewellery and getting naked in front of flashing cameras, are used to sell artificial smells contained in a jar. The essence of our present.

Dans le feu de l'action

DANS LE FEU DE L'ACTION is a choreographic montage of a scene from Opening Night by John Cassavetes. It is an essayistic short film which examines form of touching and not touching each other. There's hardly a plot. I left it out because I wanted to focus only on the "touching" moments, on these in a rude sense rather intimate actions between two people. We do not see exactly what's going on. We can't even figure out who these persons in those particular scenes are. There's at least a female and a male person, a couple maybe. I've used this footage material to create a kind of uncertain but also suspenseful atmosphere. The characters seem to be in trouble or at least in a conflict situation with each other. They kind of fight, but it's not clear whether they are serious or whether it is just a game.

Chank

CHANK 2013 On a threefold split screen you see three (daily) occurrences which have one thing in common, the sea, a symbol of life: two people enjoying the moment, drinking wine, eating a lobster using their fingers and obviously not being concerned about something. They wallow in sensual pleasures, eating and drinking – a paradisiac situation. At the same time you see a cargo ship on a perpetual route, like life itself. And you see precious objects on rotary tables – symbols of human desires which mainly focus on satisfying the senses. On a second layer the viewer sees a written text split into fragments. It’s a mythical story about the Vedas – a story about the loss and instauration of devine order (we found the story in the place where we filmed parts of the video). Throughout the video the viewer hears a low, strange and disturbing sound. These disturbances on an accustic level as well as on visual one are hints, that life or man’s purpose in life is presumably not about satisfying the senses. CHANK is a metaphor of the complex entanglements of human existence. This is illustrated by the fragments of images and text, which permanently interweave anew.

Intemerata

INTEMERATA by John Sanborn The body lives in the mind. It flies beyond gravity and defies all rules and boundaries. You cannot touch this body, but you can be touched by it. The power of this body is far beyond strength or endurance – it wields an authority that we grant it when we close our eyes and dream. Forbidden to reduce this fantasy to reality, we are obsessed with the grace and power that seduces us. Without limits it is superhuman – elemental and cheeky. Touch me if you can, it yells. But when we reach out to pull it close, it us out – DON’T. Yet we don’t know exactly what we see – sometimes it’s tangible – supple and ripe. But in a flash it evaporates. “Intemerata” is a fantasia on the obstacles of the mind and the surface of the screen. The multi-layered imagery speaks to the impossible state of a video eroticism, and the portion of our minds we reserve for that which we can never attain. Do we know what we want? Easy. We want what we cannot have. The choreographer and performer is Laura Bernasconi, with music by Theresa Wong. “Intemerata” is dedicated to the memory of Douglas Davis – who taught me to touch the screen with my mind.

Subsidence

Subsidence is a video artwork that explores the concept of the Private Space through the sense of touch. The private space, presented as a house made of ice, is placed in direct contact with the human body provoking a physical reaction whereby the transfer of heat from the body melts the house. Placing the icy house on the shoulder, we are sure that the house will melt but we are not sure of the specifics; how fast will it melt, how long will it stay in position and, when it moves, which way will it slide? The laws of matter will elicit an unpredictable result. By repeating the action with the house at various stages of melting, we will discover that different factors interfere in the performance. The contrast between the living being, interacting with the non-living object, creates a relationship of contrast, emphasized by the breathing movements and the pulse. The private space is an important concept in the 21st Century. Much of First World society has adopted a new form of Nomadism and in this state the virtual space is the only space that many people can properly inhabit. Using the sense of touch to reabsorb the essence of a space denoted by the basic shape of a house made of ice, the skin is going to reabsorb some of the water from the house as it melts. Isolated on one part of the body that supports life, which resembles a cliff, the house will slide from its position before being placed again.

Lumps of destiny

My process of working draws from a tradition of walking. I am interested in exploring the spatial and architectural aspects that sound can evoke and the use of technology to enhance this experience. The work draws less upon creating and more upon harnessing and directing, opening up engagements with the complexities of presence, repetition and rhythm. There is a similarity in the work to Marcel Duchamp's turning discs and optical experiments in regard; "–a desire that makes and loses its object in one and the same gesture, a gesture that continually losing what it has found because it has only found what it has already lost. (Krauss,R. The Im/Pulse to see, pg62, Vision & Visuality) The work engages areas of photography, architecture, mass media, the impact of technology, the writings of Samuel Becket, Henri Lefebvre, Jiddu Krishnamurti and numerous areas that are framed around vision, memory, media and the posthuman condition.

Sounds of time

Sounds of Time is an exploration of how sound alters our temporal relation to video. Within the work, a twenty-second video is continuously repeated with the soundtrack of each iteration gradually changing. By altering the properties of sound such as amplitude, pitch, rhythm, tempo and texture, a sense of pacing forms within the work. With each loop, the sound demands more of our attention. The initial loop is devoid of sound, a timer is overlaid on the video to notify the audience of the length of each iteration in real-time. The second iteration removes the timer, slowing down our perception of time until diegetic sound is eventually introduced. A property of sound is altered with each repetition, diegetic sound becomes non-diegetic, the volume and frequencies gradually rise, the tempo and texture began to flutter and become less continuous. These properties, often used in conjunction with each other speeds up our perception of time. The loops continuously build to a climax when instantly all sound is removed, bringing our perception of time to a halt. The work ends with the return of the timer, counting down the final iteration in real-time, realigning our temporal relation with reality.

Playing landscape

A romantic view is shown along with a piano keyboard. Unexpectedly, an odd musical piece arises while the image experiences visual variations. The painting is Bohemian Landscape, by Caspar David Friedrich, and the sound composition is a random game. As a symbiosis test, the video suggests the connections between music and visual arts within sounds in the digital medium. The result becomes certainly confusing. Are the musical notes provoking the color fluctuations in the painting? Or are the changes in the landscape the cause of keys movement? This ironical paradox about stimulus and responses implies new possibilities for art and hearing. Listening to a painting, painting a sound or playing a landscape may be contemporary perspectives for authors and spectators.

Invasion

The uncanny is a Freudian concept of an instance where something can be both familiar yet alien at the same time, resulting in a feeling of it being uncomfortably strange. Because the uncanny is familiar, yet incongruous, it often creates cognitive dissonance within the experiencing subject, due to the paradoxical nature of being simultaneously attracted to yet repulsed by an object. The human body has always been a source effect of inspiration, exploration and innovation, and at the same time subjected to impact by external forces. It can be familiar and alien at the same time, visible and obvious, yet unconscious and unaware. Physical gestures that we are often used to, can be perceived as invasive or radical if we just look carefully.

The disturbance is part of me

’The disturbance is part of me’ is a staged video. It is a work existing between video art, photography and performance art based on a battle between a female face and a floating white piece of cloth. The cloth bounces on, hiding and revealing her face partially in a repetitive, restless action. Whipping into her face, the cloth removes the spirit from the parts it conceals. The face seems neutral, but her constant gaze is eager to see beyond the cover. She does not give up. The face in coexistence with cloth opens up a way to a new interpretation of the theme “touch”. This work is an attempt to recreate ’I’ through art and perception. Interactively, it questions the distance between audience and performer. Time passes, and the camera lens disappears as the curtain takes its place. The viewer and the performer end in the same situation; they cannot look through each other’s eyes without disturbance.

Announcement

This video is an abstract approach to the feeling of intensity. The subtraction applied to the image takes away the pictorial and narrative distractions and the absence of complex actions allows the spectator vision to linger on surface. In this video a woman is reading the declaration on the elimination of violence against women with an immobile expression on her face. She intends to announce the general human rights when her fragile voice is gradually covered by distracting sound. The noise made by working washing machines recalls the confinement of women in domestic environments. Her struggle does not mean any hesitation or objectification. Rather, it underlines her desire of transgressing the borders. She, in her silent rebellious behavior, stages her exclusion from the traditional expectation of her. The close-up magnifies the face and centralizes the mouth while making the Character anonymous. This enlargement is not a reduction but an attempt to open a door leading to the inner world of the emotions. The day I registered for the festival coincided with the international day of elimination violence against women. Being inspired by the coincidence, this video is a depiction of my concerns affected by the world full of injustice against not only women but also humans. This video is a call to put this issue into discussion again.

'A contemporary exploration of Balance and how its only viewable or attainable in its relationship to opposites. In many unforeseen ways the concept of balance is extremely important to our experiences as an individual throughout our life's. In this day and age the spectrum I have prescribed to existence is negotiated through a process of mediation. Today the behaviour of the media and its influence on our perspective of the wider world is at its highest one could perhaps, suggest that it has become difficult to glimpse the truth and develop a balanced opinion. In relationship to our quest for identity a journey to navigate the continuous stream of global representations and happening's this work serves as an opportunity for contemplation and perhaps a suggestion of how sight itself is something that changes. Still images

I perceive art as a field with its border, in a sense that if we consider something as an art there has to be its opposite – non art. Exactly in this border zone, which is a kind of a playground, the most interesting thing occurs. Art emerges. It is a product of an artists reflection and interaction with matter itself. This is an ongoing perpetual exchange of relationships between a subject and an object. As much as it represents the human capacity to translate reality into new languages it also reflects the state of the object that is being coded. Our everyday artificial and fragmented environment characterised with saturation of images and sounds follow further fragmentation of our personalities. In this void we are left only with possibilities to mimic representation of representations. I, as a consumer of the same artificial reality, have witnessed this dissociation inside myself due to the pressure of the society to play certain roles. I asked my self how and where I am me. How is my reality shaped regarding to environment in which I exist. What is the naked space inside which one I prolong my own private space -my body. Where is that border, is there any and how does it look. As many other I have feeling of being trapped in certain normative that is imposed over me, our cultural contract that became environment it self. This work is documentation of the language of two bodies, collective one and mine own.

Recipe

Taste is a deep sense, and could be described as a kind of touch that can ‘feel’ the shapes and textures of chemicals, perhaps at the molecular level. For the human and wild animal alike, the sense of taste is vital for survival: pleasurable relish enhances hunger’s drive; whilst disgusting, pungent tangs give warning of poisons. For millennia humans have combined flavours, have experimented with the alchemy of cooking; through out all histories human cultures have developed cuisines that root people to their worlds and to each other. The sensual act of cooking and then eating is always to do with life and death – some animal or plant must be killed before being transformed into food. The word- and body-languages of this film-poem divulge a recipe of possibilities where the joys and terrors of existence, edible or otherwise, meet through flavours and seasons.

Datum

What we see in our screens everyday is merely a conjunction of algorithms that compose undecipherable data for us, and in many cases, for others. Despite not wanting this to happen, the surveillance on our private information by different governmental or entertainment agencies happens on a daily basis, and occurs around the world. However, when this surveillance is carried out towards the institutions that watch us, it is typified as a crime or treason. This leaves us at the mercy of those institutions and their rules. Datum proposes a reflection on this phenomenon, beginning from what we are actually capable of seeing and observe in our screens and the processes that happen behind them.

In this video, the artist acts with what she calls her “third eye”: a small video camera attached to her forehead. On the runway of the historical airport Tempelhof in Berlin she takes off and flies into outer space. We see what she sees through her third eye, as she reaches the area of which Man Ray spoke about in his “Pepys Diary” (1959): “Somewhere in outer space the images of the entire history of mankind travel on the airwaves”.

First Sound

In our lives the faculty of hearing – our capacity to experience sound - is so tied to a need to comprehend language and to understand the external environment that our experience of this phenomena is rarely divorced from these important imperatives. However, for a brief moment in our lives, hearing is completely without any form or reference, as we have not started to analyse or categorise the sensation. This video explores that state – hearing with no reference.

A.B.C.O.D.E.

A.B.C.O.D.E. is an ode to alphabets and an expression of the coded nature of visual communication. What can we see? Color, shape, movement. Seeing alone is not enough. It takes cognitive power to turn a shape into a letter, and education to understand a letter’s meaning. When we read in our native language the process seems automatic, and we forget the leap our brains take between seeing and understanding, that we have to look at each letter to understand each word to understand each sentence to understand anything. We also forget that the symbols we use are not universal, that they are often hyper-local systems that have replaced other systems that were once as widely understood. People who write in a different language may have a similar symbol with a different meaning. People who speak the same language may not have the education needed to decipher it in written form. In this video we can see letters and other symbols, but we cannot decipher their meaning. Removed from their cultural context, letters become optical illusions of sorts, as the shapes we perceive diverge from the reality of their meanings. Another subtle optical illusion plays out in the background, as moving lines illustrate another subtle gulf between seeing and understanding. We can tell the lines are moving, but can't as easily discern in which direction they move.

Bewilderments of the eyes

Bewilderments of the Eyes fosters a phenomenological awareness of seeing the discreet nomenclature of time, that is, seeing the seconds. The performance is recorded from inside and outside an historic cave in Point Lonsdale, Australia, where the infamous British escapee, William Buckley was known to hide out. The cameras record me exiting the cave to hang a white silhouette of Buckley, the “white ghost”, dressed in his Aboriginal attire while holding his lucky spear. The two-channel split-screen video shows simultaneous inside and outside views of the performance. In the studio, I reversed each video of the initial performance, and layered the opposite perspective on the original inside and outside view. On each side of the final split-screen video, both layers consisting of the forward and reversed views of the performance are seen by cutting the videos into one-second intervals. In final form, watching each side of the video, where the inside and outside views are compressed into one screen, with second by second editing, complicates the act and understanding of seeing. The intended shadow-play of hanging the iconic silhouette of the white ghost at the entrance of the cave, and recording from the inside and outside, references Plato’s quote from The Allegory of the Cave, “Any one who has common sense will remember that the bewilderments of the eyes are of two kinds, and arise from two causes, either from coming out of the light or from going into the light”.

The "puppet" theme see the video through, this is an important symbol of the evolution of the boy and girl identity. In this case this symbol is the vehicle of the identity crisis. The objective and subjective viwepoint changes permanently. The music is stressed and the theme changes cyclic. The repetative rythm of main theme impresses the illusion of rigour.

The image of that day

Everything that man sees is recorded in the mind and becomes part of his experience. The visual images once acquired, become transformed into past memories. With the passage of time, these memories are modified, they become confused and the images overlap. Even experienced emotion is transformed into an image-memory, because if you remember the excitement we felt, automatically, in our minds, it creates the image of that day letting us relive that emotion.

Requiem

Requiem is a visual journey created in order to express the closeness that exists between human beings and nature, particularly among the female world and flora. The link between woman and nature is something very ancient, that we find in mythology, literature, theater and art. I decided to work on quest'originaria metamorphosis by staging an exchange of fluids, as if to prove the origin of the same essence. The flora that is bleeding, the woman who loses sap. If you hurt one, the other suffers. Modern society, so selfishly focused on the needs of man, and the very idea of "Man" as the master of all have led to a rupture of this bond. In the video it is felt that this union is not entirely instinctive and natural, but is somewhat coveted and forced. The symbols that I've used, such as "eat" the leaves, penetrate into the soil with your fingers, limbs or hair weave with bark and branches, are gestures that become the mouthpiece of a primitive and desperate need to heal this wound before becomes irreversible. Is a path in some way autobiographical, expressing my need to reconnect with the primordial earth, and my desire that man again feel the need to be part of nature, and no longer a stranger or even "sovereign".

The crackers of a renown food brand are put under examination: from an analysis under the lens of the apparent handicraft irregularity of the typical small holes to an overview and comparison of the content of a whole packaging. The intent is to underline the non-reality represented by a product-image and let to emerge the hypocrisy of the commercial message that is an emblem of the illusion of a genuine world and of a false nature, unmasked thanks to the very matter of the product, or in this case by the 39 holes of the crackers. This artwork confirms the interest for the nutrition topic, the relationship between image and substance, and all the social implications such as the mystification of the nature and the creation of an aesthetic model of genuineness, this is to say the need for someone to recognize oneself even in food products that could be defined “food-symbols.”

Parabolic perspective

Before the creation of this piece I have never created an audio component for any of my works. The audio component is usually created by my collaborator, Paul J Botelho. As a visual person I allowed the musical element to be created by another to complete the piece. Given the fact that I was assigned the sense "Hearing" for this project I felt it imperative to create the audio portion myself. I tend to see the world, ideas and abstract principals through a lens of Broadcasting, RF signals and satellite transmissions. It is just something that I understand particularly in a theme of communication. It helps me to define the undefinable. In creating this piece I began thinking about communication, specifically the communication between myself and my wife, Jill Treadwell. When we were young, people would say that we spoke our own language. Never before had I shared a communication so profound or had someone understand me with such ease. It was as though our communication that appeared to be "encrypted" to others could be perfectly deciphered and understood by one another. Unfortunately this began to change over time and we understood each other less and less although there was always a profound underlying connection. I decided to use this piece as an exploration to determine or better understand what had changed in our communication. The audio and video aspects were not created with an idea in mind. They were created as two separate entities and were never intended to be unified. They were created in two very different states of mind and both without intention. Much of the video in this piece was shot during a time when we were happy. We were in synchronicity in thoughts and were simply having fun with a video camera. Many of the choices and distortions were meant to be complimentary and descriptive of this state of mind. The video depicts us in conversation, both engaged, both on the same frequency. The colors, textures, distortion loops were representative of my feelings and essentially made to relay those feelings to her. This moment, this feeling was documented in a language of color, texture and kinetics that I knew she would understand. The origins of the video component were in fact conceived as a birthday gift for her. The audio was developed when trying to decrypt a hexadecimal biss. code encrypted satellite signal on a Ku2 GPS tracking receiver. As each decryption key was input into the IRD the signal began to reveal aspects of the feed that lay beneath it. I decided to record this as it reminded me of the times that our communication was at its worst. Our communication used to be effortless. Did she stop giving me the decryption code, did I just stop listening? I used to see them in her eyes, her actions. I'd hear the inflections in her voice, the rhythm of her words. Maybe I'm just not hearing. Maybe I have to pay attention to her words. Were other elements of other broadcasts, other problems, outside transmissions amplifying in the parabolic antenna at a stronger signal and drowning out our broadcast. Was it an uplink issue, was one of us broadcasting too intensely and double illuminating that satellite? We were knocking one another off the bird? When I combined these two components, the audio and the video, the product looked, sounded and felt like what our communication had become. The combination of the components appeared disrupted, the transmission and decoding were tainted. There appeared to be points of synchronicity but they were buried in chaos, encryption and a disconnection that I hadn't realized. To expand upon my perception of our disrupted transmission I began adding elements to both the audio and video components of the piece. The elements added at this point were representative of how I saw these elements when combined as a whole. I added satellite feedbacks of vector scopes and waveform monitors, "standard units of measure", when routed into each other and challenged they became an element of the disconnection. There was no standard or measurement, the standards were constantly corrupted and redefined. These instruments which I equated as individual ideals or perceptions only added to the disharmony. Sounds from the audio track from the original video where we were happy were interlaced and manipulated. Sounds from the decrypted transmission were stretched and manipulated. The culmination of these 2 components, at least to me represented what our communication had become the majority of the time. I wish we could just give each other the decryption code. We had given each other the code a million times. It is essentially the code to her soul and to mine. Maybe we hurt each other too many times, maybe we didn't want to be heard or to hear anymore. Maybe it was too scary to be understood. When someone can really see you, really hear you, really understand you and they hurt you, the real you, it is devastating. I was forced to ask myself why I continue to watch a broadcast that is only distinguishable a small amount of the time? Its components only become a whole on rare occasions, why don't I change the channel? I can only answer that It’s something that I really want to see and to hear and to talk about with someone who gets it, that the times that it is whole makes the rest worth it. I have flipped through the channels and there's nothing else on. The people, stories and broadcasts are all re-runs. I've seen and heard them countless times and I don’t think they would really be able to see me, it would be hollow and one sided. At least there's a chance I can see and hear and be heard and we can watch it together, live it together, eat cheese on the couch and find the chord on the piano that best describes chocolate. I'm listening

Bipolar Fractal is an abstraction in moving images on bipolar states of mind. Alternating episodes between mania and depression, ascending and descending states of experience are processed through geometrical mutations and dynamic movements of Rutt Etra-like synthesized fractal forms and corresponding frequencies of sounds. Noise error

There is a custom among Russian airliners’ passengers to applaud after every landing. I hate this custom – but maybe they are right in some way: every landing is a sort of miracle. An everyday miracle. If you are invited into the navigator’s cabin of a huge air transport, landing looks absolutely fantastic for you. No marvel that different sounds even accompanied by visions may occur to the newcomer’s mind. We have now two minutes to prove it during our test flight and landing.

Haptic hallucinations

An attempt to reconstruct tactile sensations from a very old but well remembered dream. More than ten years passed since that night; it was not a nightmare, but a dream - most probably - about love. Some invisible “supreme forces” were at work in this dream and brought me into an altered state of consciousness. Perhaps to explain what love is. I felt like a dubious biological construction kit consisted of body fragments wallowing in a sort of “prebiotic soup». Each of the floating fragments was touch-sensitive in its own way and they all behaved strangely when contacted each other. I don't remember if that all helped me understand anything about love then. Maybe this video reconstruction will help.

Untouchable

My research of work is given in the image field with the connections of consciousness and how they are manifested through images, elements and senses. This video is about the aspects of senses and their transitions; the power of now and how do we deal with this paradigm.

Have you ever seen the sun at night?

Regarding the question, what do you think about life?, persons offer views and glimpses on their visions. Light circles across them and the ways of seeing. Architecture of public housing provides a framing of the people and their perspectives.

Love Flavors

Our tongue is capable of distinguishing five main flavors: salt taste, sour taste, sweet taste, bitter taste and umami taste. Love flavors make an analogy between them and some of the feelings and stages of any given relationship: desire, rejection, acceptance, abandonment and love.

El Tacto

Touch belongs to the sensory system whose influence is difficult to isolate or remove. A human being can live despite being blind, deaf and have no sense of taste and smell, but it is impossible to survive without the functions of the skin. Touch affects the whole body, and culture in the midst of which it lives and the individuals with whom you contact.

The Odorless Danger

The Odorless Danger In the sense of ‘smell’ I wanted to show something that has no smell at all. An odorless danger. In the news: “The Turner Radio Network (TRN) has recently issued a report on the Fukushima radiation being a serious threat to the West Coast of North America and others in the entire northern hemisphere. The radiation is coming from Reactor 3 in Fukushima’s nuclear disaster site in Japan. The nuclear reactor was damaged in Japan’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.” Wave by wave an odorless danger threatens to build up. I created a track from sound recordings made at the shore and combined them with recordings of a Geiger counter. All sounds were electronically shaped and re-shaped to create a soundscape fitting the endless waves and drops of ‘radiation’. The images are innocent recordings of gentle waves. Creating a tension with the soundscape and the knowledge of the threat.

Sea Floor

Created entirely by human and synthetic hair, the dark glittering landscape of Sea Floor pulls the eye in close to linger on the glittering shadowy movement, pulsing like anemones or barnacles in the current. Activating a sort of haptic vision, the eye feels both the suggestion of the cold, silent watery depths, as well the sensation of the material itself, the textures of the blond and brown hair sliding against each other, coming in and out of focus.

Do you smell that?

In July 2012 Peru regained its former distinction as the world’s top cocaine producer, according to an annual White House report that says Colombia’s output fell sharply in 2011, putting the former leader in third place behind Bolivia. The White House report estimates Peruvian cocaine production was 358 tons, followed by Bolivia with 292 tons and Colombia at 215 tons. This project is a video remix. I take footage and clips from different sources like internet, home videos and DVD's to make something new.For this video I took well known movie clips and combined it with the video trailer's audio about Peru as an exotic tourist destination made by the peruvian goverment. In this particular case the video is a sarcastic way to tell the viewer about the sense of smell and the connection of snorting cocaine for fun without knowing the violence and death that leads with it. So There is nothing wrong with your computer or TV screen, the aesthetics of the video is by choice.

Mourning for feelings

Feelings help us to go on in our life. Some times they cheer us up and some times they make us sad but they are that extra and important spice which human needs in the life. I have a fear. I fear the day which I loose the feelings, my feelings. The day which I can not become sad or happy anymore. The day which I can not feel the pain or the joy. Mourning for feelings is an attempt to visualize my fear. The video starts with my walking on snow without feeling the cold, sitting in a snow storm without feeling anything and at the end mourning for what I lost.

The paradox of sight

How disconcerting it is when the person you are talking to is saying one thing but what you see them doing is completely contradictory. In this video, the figure is very still & symmetrical, obscured by shadow, and quite severe, while laughing uncontrollably at the same time.

The texture of being

There is nothing quite like the feeling of one's exhalation or inhalation of air. The feeling is rough, soft, hot cold, harsh and gentle - all at the same time. All asthmatics know this, but so does everyone else: if you have ever run so hard that you could not get enough air when you stopped and your body was contorted with gasping, you know exactly how harshly air can touch your lungs.

The sound of being

When a newborn's body emerges from its mother's body, if we can hear her, we know she is alive. If we can't hear her, we know she's not breathing and that something has gone wrong with her life. Breathing is being. Last winter I assisted in my friend Paoli's hospice as she spent her last weeks dying of cancer. Sometimes she was so still that as I sat by her bed holding her hand, I could not hear her breathing. Then, suddenly she would start coughing. Her coughing was horrible and shook her body dreadfully. But it was a relief to know she was still breathing.
