Statement
Art for me is a way of talking silently. As a visual artist I use photography and video as my language to communicate with my surrounding. In my work mostly I try to challenge my personal questions like identity, gender, defined norms and etc. I try to look at these concepts from different perspectives. On one hand I focus on them from my own point of view and try to visualize my questions or even answer them by involving myself in my art as self- portrait. On the other hand I try to look at the questions by the influence of my environment on me. Again I involve myself in my art but this time as an individual who is under the influence of society.
As an Iranian woman who grew up in Iran and now living in Sweden, my questions mostly conceptualize around a comparison between my living experiences both in Iran and Sweden. These comparisons are not necessarily for defining right or wrong, there are just an attempt to visualize the process of developing and evolving my questions about myself during the time.
I try to conceptualize and also visualize all my own challenges in a way to be able to send a message to the viewers. These challenges vary from time to time based on my experiences of life. My video arts are single channels and each video deals with a specific topic. The subjects of videos are sometimes metaphoric –ex. Clown- and sometimes I use a pure minimalistic approach to talk about some sensitive issues like freedom or my own self-portrait. Each topic guides me to its medium (photography or video). When I want to emphasize on a specific frame, as a message thus I use photography but when is the time to tell stories with a story line the video is chosen.
